Capturing Essence, Evoking Emotion

A Passion for Art, Nature and Form

Kevin Tharme is an artist who focuses on capturing the emotions and feelings of his subjects through his paintings. He takes inspiration from contemporary art, with influences from impressionism and abstraction.

Kevin believes that art's profound value lies not only in the act of observing and forming opinions but also in the imperative to challenge oneself, to truly engage with the artwork, and to interrogate and refine one's own perceptions.

When painting portraits, Kevin takes the time to get to know the person he is painting. While he prefers to paint from life, he also utilizes technology when it proves helpful. His goal is not to create a photographic representation of the individual, but rather to capture their shape, proportion, and essence. The longer you observe his portraits, the more you discover, as does he when he paints them.

In his landscape paintings, Kevin combines multiple observations of a location to create an image on canvas. Similar to his portraits, he does not aim to replicate a photograph but rather seeks to convey the essence, power, or spirit of the area. Kevin particularly enjoys painting larger landscapes.

Abstract art poses a challenge for Kevin as it requires him to study a subject and then paint his reaction to it. He finds abstraction to be a natural medium for exploring issues related to climate change caused by mankind. While his abstract works may directly reference anger and despair, Kevin also strives to create pieces that invite viewers to delve deeper into the subject matter rather than simply having to turn away from it.

Kevin employs various mediums in his paintings, including oils, acrylics, digital art, and occasionally watercolors.
